Behind Blue Eyes part 11: Vecna's Secret Weapon

The end of the Battle of the Black Princes reveals Vecna's secret weapon. It is an other-worldly being trapped in a magical cage and pushed along in a giant wheeled cart by 50 Urok adepts.

The party attacks and defeats the Urok before they can release the being. But what to do with their new prisoner? If a deal could be struck, it would be a powerful ally. But can a creature this powerful and this malevolent be trusted?

The party heals and deliberates, and one by one they find themselves propositioned by the being. In the end they decide to stall, rest and heal from their wounds. As the minutes turn to hours and then to days, they face a new horror.

The dead from the previous battle have begun to animate and stagger toward our heroes. Aware that they cannot defeat all their opponents from the day previous, if those opponents are now gifted with unlife; the party takes to the sea, with their captive still bound.

Their locomotion is nothing more than crude paddles fashioned from the Urok cart itself. Progress is slow. Days are spent at sea, drifting South. Whenever and wherever they put ashore, the animated dead are not far behind. The staggering horde seems to follow them, able to match their pace through the hatred that resides in their relentless and restless cursed souls.

The captive, meanwhile, will not rest. Daily it seems to test the bars of its cage. Soon, it reasons, the party will not hold it and their best bet would be to strike a deal while it is in a merciful mood.
