Three Northruners and a Map

Finding themselves in Haven, four of the characters witnessed an apparent falling out between three Northruners. Two were killed by their fellows and the third was slain by Lamborg the Paladin who sought to end the hostilities and impose some sense of law in the lawlessness. The source of the trouble was a piece of sailcloth upon which had been drawn a map and on which the barbarians had written a “shopping list” of items.

While in Haven, the Paladin made the acquaintance of Fr. Aljero, the local priest, and Johon, apprentice to Evard, in an attempt to learn some information about the map. He ingratiated himself to the latter by volunteering to take delivery of an iron brazier made by a smith in Bolden.

The party was exonnerated of any involvement in the deaths of the barbarians (good to be charismatic), and so the party left Haven and journeyed to Bolden — there they hoped to find the Prefect of the Kingdom in order to discover what his “hat” had to do with the map.

Enroute to Bolden, they were waylaid by orcs and rescued by Wu, an Eastruner, and Queequig, a Barasin. They later met a kindly priest in Father Jarl, who helped to knit them up and offered to let them spend the night in Woodbye. The next morning saw them back on the road to Bolden, where they met up with Beleg, the Dwarf weaponsmith, who identified the Prefect’s Hat as a geological feature in his land of origin. He agreed to journey with the party.

After a duel, and then some, between the players and some of the town guard, the characters hired Capt. Bligh and his “Bloodied Stool” to take them down the coast to their objective. Enroute to the Prefect’s Hat, the small vessel was bottomed out on what appeared to be a great golden dome, just beneath the waves.

The golden dome turned out to the hammered gold hair of a great alabaster statue, that they estimated must be at least 100′ tall. The Captain testified that he had been up and down this coast a dozen times or more and had not seen it before, nor had any of his seagoing friends spoke of it, nor was it on any of his charts.

While some of the crew began a salvage operation on the “hair”. Lamborg and Beleg (after some convincing) managed to open a hatch in a lamp that the statue’s hand was holding. Inside, Lamborg spotted a dias surrounded by mirrors and a leather bag over top of something that was about the size of a bowling ball.

Quote of the Day: “Look, we’re miles from shore on a boat made of animal hides and none of us can swim. What can go wrong???”
