The Trouble with Magisters

The Adventurers were recreating in the Soapy Mug when they were approached by a thin, balding man named Clemis. He asked them about their loyalties on the question of Succession and then introduced himself as the Magister of Waldron. His fear is that the magister of Fieldstone has at last perfected the ancient eastern secret of black sand. He hires the adventurers to steal a sample of the sand and to get a copy of the recipe, if possible. For doing so, he will pay 100 cr and 400 cr more upon completion.

Instead of stealing black powder (as hired) by Fieldstone Manor, the adventurers informed Duke Fieldstone why they were hired and then agreed to work for him instead. He sent them up to Waldron as part of an elaborate double-spy plan. Once there, they also betrayed Fieldstone’s plans to Duke Padrik V and thus become triple spies, playing both ends against the middle.

Their loyalties on the issue of succession would seem to be with whoever pays them the most.

In addition to earning money and the enmity of two different magisters, they have found themselves in the good graces of the noblewoman, Holly, the neice of Fieldstone. An advantage they hope to call on in the future.

Quote of the Day: “Where do I stand on succession? That’s easy. Who’s paying?
