The Boat of Boblo

By spending six weeks in Gelder, the party enjoyed some celebrity for bringing peace between the Halfings and Humans. In the Princeling’s Rest, they happened upon the last remnant of the lifkavir resistance group – four Halfling “warriors” who were barely out of their teens. The remaining lifkavir were speaking conspiratorially when their confidence was won by Forgo, the party’s recently recruited halfling thief.

The four halflings admitted that they believed they discovered the mythical boat of Boblo – an ancient Halfling of legend. As some believe that Boblo was possessed of a great artifact when he went missing, they meant to recover it. They were also afraid of going alone for there were sure to be monsters. If the party agreed to surrender the artifact to them, the halflings would allow their company on the journey.

The party journeyed some four hours out of Gelder and discovered a peculiar hedgerow encompassing a many centuries old maple tree. There, in the secret enclosed garden they discovered the ancient dinghy, rotted and overgrown by the tree itself.

Climbing up to the boats perch, they discovered a seeming set of stairs that led down into the heart of the tree itself. Then, leaving the two squires and Jym the Page behind, the entered the tree into the fascinating lair of the Morkoth.

Forgo was the first of the party to enter the tree and quickly left his companions behind. The passage led down to a wet expanse many dozens of feet below ground. Just as quickly as he entered, he succumbed to the charms of the master of the lair. He then found himself consumed alive in perfect bliss. The rest of the party would discover his armor when they arrived.

Shortly after the rest of the party entering the dark, Solomon had a friendly fire incident with one of the Halfling teens, killing him and causing the others to extract their friend with great mourning. The rest of the party continued.

After battles with the Morkoth, with trolls, vodyanoi, and troglodytes, the party escaped the complex and out of the tree which guarded the door. They did not, however, locate an artifact such as the one purported to be taken by Boblo on his fateful journey.

Once outside of the tree, however,.they found their squires and page unconscious and attacked by the very halflings they came to help. Jym explained that while the party was gone, he and the squires found a secret compartment in the boat and the splintered remains of an old box, which held a strange crown. They were still arguing about what to do with it, when the Halflings emerged and a battle ensued. The squires and page were wounded while the halflings fled with the treasure.

Using his magic carpet, Brumbar easily caught up with the halflings and relieved them of their artifact. When one of them threatened his life, Brumbar slew him.
