The Lure of Lundinium

While holding over in Bolden, the party heard that the nearby town of Lundinium was beset by a terrible curse. Travelers from there can only relate that they believe it to be related to goblins. Having recently buttered their bread with goblin hordes, the players set out to see what they might do for the townspeople in peril.

Arriving in Lundinium, the party was given a heroes feast by the grateful town. While interviewing the hapless citizens the adventurers learn that the town of 600 has had its population reduced to 500 over the course of single year. Every victim is found in the morning, drained of blood, and with terrible “fang marks” on their person.

The investigative efforts were further hampered by the spoiled and effete son of the town elder who said he believed that the curse was divine retribution for the sire’s philandering. He opposed them at every turn, going so far as to hire “muscle” to intimidate the party into leaving. He was unsuccessful from beginning to end.

The party discovered that victim zero was the town priest — an amateur herbalist. They believe that he brought back an intelligent and evil plant known as Sugarwort and sowed it throughout the city proper. That plant presumably animated at night and takes victims from among the populace. It began with the stray cats and dogs, then the rat and pests, then the pets and livestock. Finally, it began feeding on the humans.

When the party directed the town to weed their gardens, the creature animated as an eighty-foot vegetative biped out for blood. The players defeated said monster and returned to Bolden, once again, as men of reknown.

Quote of the Day: “I’m gonna dot his I.”
