Cache a Fallen Star pt. 7

A rescued Dwarf by the name of Hafgar identifies himself as a master smith and agrees to work the mysterious ore for the party in exchange for mere room and board.

The return to Wanderhalt is set with a variety of non-lethal encounters. A nosey nobleman is bought off by Nan Fung Lee. A mysterious sailing vessel appears as a nexus between two worlds. The only casualty of these encounters is the young apprentice of the Nan, one Holly Fieldstone who is immolated alive. Her charred remains return with the party to the city.

Once there, the party loses control of the subdued stone giant they had taken prisoner, and are forced to subdue him permanently. His remains are carted off by a taxidermist at the behest of Budokai. The party then appears before the King in his court at Castle Scarlet and convince him to spend a few days ignoring the needs of his kingdom in favor of a hunt.

While hunting they feel out His Grace regarding the mysterious ore. The King agrees to take custody of both pieces of it while the party determines what to do. Many days are spent consulting the most learned metallurgists of Collonia. The ancient scrolls reveal that only a fire hot enough to consume diamonds (or perhaps kindled by diamonds themselves) will be sufficient to work the ore into a finished alloy. The sages further postulate that this might be done by using far less expensive uncut diamonds. They learn that such stones are rumored to be found littering the sands of certain shores in Southrun.

Each of the party members considers the strange irony of possessing their own share of this priceless commodity, and quickly realizes that the line between priceless and worthless can be very fine indeed.
