Behind Blue Eyes part 2: The Prisoner

The blue-eyed man explains to the party that he is a prisoner of that place and has been for centuries. During the time of his imprisonment, he has come to see the error of his ways. Now he only wants out to make things right. He wonders if someone in the party might take his place. By so doing, he can leave and try to fix everything he ever did wrong.

Between the adventurer's collective knowledge of ancient history and religion, the party comes to believe that the blue-eyed man has been imprisoned since the God War of 5107.

The man introduces himself simply as a prisoner. He explains that while he was immortal and once a champion without rival, he is largely powerless now. Once he exacted blood of kings, but now... he was just a man. He claims that much of his raw power was taken from him when he was defeated in battle, but with whatever time he has left, he intends to fix everything he did wrong.

The party largely agreed to retreat out of the cave, deciding to leave Peter to whatever punishment he had earned... except the half-orc Deathstroke, who on impulse agrees to take the place of the captive. Peter gives Deathstroke the book he wrote of his life and origins. He then departs the tower and passes the stunned party who rush back to see what has befallen their goblin companion.

Deathstroke finds himself imprisoned, as he cannot pass the threshold of the cave. No magic or strategem will avail him. The others in the party leave him to his fate and exit. They find that the Town of Tourville can now see the "tower" for what it is and their local history has been a lie. The party beats a hasty retreat from wrath of these citizens and purposes to follow Peter in order to see what he intends to do.

Deathstroke, however, will not be resigned to the cave. He spends many hours tunneling and using his brute strength to leave the cave by another exit -- one he fashioned of his own hands. Delayed... he intends to catch up to the party and ask them to read to him from the book he owns.
